Centred in the kitchen, the island creates a welcoming hub around which everyone can gather at meal times. The cabinets that rise to the ceiling provide not only more storage, but also a feeling of unity and space. There is a balanced blend of components: stainless steel appliances contrast the warm graining of the cabinets and the island’s laminated wood counter, and they reflect the soft sheen of the handles.
These lustrous Vanilla cabinets are nestled in an all-wood décor, from the wide plank floor to the open-beam ceiling and wainscoted walls. The Cocobrown island houses cabinets for wines, glasses and accessories. A decorative shelf overhangs the range hood. The texture and colours of the stonework behind the oven and the Corian-edged ceramic countertop add to the warmth unique to rustic kitchens.

Made entirely of Cork coloured birch, this kitchen contains hints of the past. The cooking area is framed by turned posts, as well as small drawers to keep spices, herbs and utensils within reach.
 
The hood covering, with its shelf supported by two corbels, is reminiscent of a fireplace mantle. Sumptuous Ubatuba granite is used for both the countertop and the wall behind the range top. Note the different counter levels: cooking is at an ergonomic height, thus avoiding joints in the granite.
 
The pantry makes an impressive statement with its turned posts, its recess and its retractable doors. All the niceties of a country kitchen are here: bread box, wine rack and wicker storage baskets. Moulding fastens the cabinets to the ceiling.

Designed in maple stained Nepal with a brown varnish glaze, this kitchen is built against a brick wall. A very large island houses the microwave oven. In the adjoining room, a corner office and a large wall unit are coordinated with the cabinets. The very popular Shaker style was chosen for the doors, but personalized by the addition of a narrow rectangular moulding.
